As CARE Österreich, we are a member of CARE International which is a confederation composed of twelve national members, each being an autonomous non-governmental organization in its own right. We carry out a range of project and programme-related, advocacy, fundraising, and constituency-building activities in support of CARE’s humanitarian and development programmes. We share common systems, structures and expertise as well as an integrated operational presence reaching more than 55 million people in poor communities in 72 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. While CARE is a large international organisation with more than 14,500 employees worldwide, we have a strong local presence and 98 % of our staff are nationals of the developing countries where our programmes are implemented.

All members of CARE International subscribe to common policies and programme principles which involve a commitment to marginalized and vulnerable groups to achieve lasting impact on the underlying causes of poverty and social injustice:
We promote empowerment, in solidarity with the poor and marginalized people with whom we work, we work in partnership with other organizations in particular with local partners to maximize the impact of our programmes, we seek ways to be held accountable to poor and marginalized people whose rights are denied, we address discrimination of all kinds, promote the non-violent resolution of conflicts at all levels and seek sustainable results in our work.
