Ehtiopia: Emergency Assistance for at risk groups in Borana - ETH079

Project Goal(s): Enhanced survival and improved quality of life, health, and nutritional status of drought affected people in Borana.

Project Outputs and/or Results:
Result #1(supplemental feeding):
Immediate nutritional and support needs of malnourished children and identified at-risk groups (pregnant and lactating women lactating, PLWHA, AWD cases, chronically sick and disabled individuals) are met through targeted supplementary feeding.
Result #2(health and hygiene practices):
Increased knowledge in health and hygiene practices in the community.

Key Activities:
General Project Activities

  • Prepare and sign project agreement with all concerned line Ministries at appropriate level.
  • Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with partner organizations.
  • Recruitment and staffing.
  • Develop detailed action plan.
  • Sensitizations and focal group discussion with key community leaders.
  • Targeting/screening of beneficiaries.
  • Assist and supervise in planning and final distribution of commodities
  • Monitoring and evaluation.
  • Project management and administration.

Specific activities related to result #1:

  • Selection of TSF distribution sites in consultation with communities.
  • Procurement and warehousing of supplementary food rations for 8,720 beneficiaries.
  • Management / oversight of food distribution exercises.
  • Monitoring of nutritional status of people being treated
  • Provide therapeutic and/or supplementary feeding as appropriate.

Specific activities related to result #2:

  • Produce promotion materials
  • TOT for 50 local stakeholders and government participate in health education on hygiene and
    sanitation promotion
  • 25,000 receive hygiene and sanitation awareness raising messages

Other Marketing Requirements:
CARE Country Office will send in due course, upon request and at least when submitting interim and final reports project-related pictures and human interest stories in electronic form.
