Gaza: Fresh Food Assistance Project Phase 3 - WBG062

Beneficiaries/Location: CARE will target small farmers and vulnerable households in communities in the following regions: North Gaza, Gaza, Middle Gaza, Khan Yunis and Rafah governorates.
The social/health institutions that will benefit from this project are located in Jabalia, Gaza, Khan Yunis, and Rafah.
The total number of beneficiaries will be approximately 67,856 individuals (8,482
households incl. farmers and women from making the packing materials) and 1,802 individuals living in 11 social institutions. The number of individuals was calculated by assuming the average size of household in Gaza to be 8 persons on average based on data CARE collected from previous food security projects.

Specific objective:
To enable small-scale vegetable farmers to improve their livelihoods and to improve the variety and nutritional quality of meals of food-vulnerable households and residents of social/health care centres.
Result 1: Targeted farmers are able to sustain a regular income.
Result 2: Targeted households and health care centres have regular access to fresh food requirements during the project.
Result 3: Targeted women receive support and are able to sustain a regular income during the lifecycle of the Action

Activities for expected Result 1:
Activity 1: Conduct baseline survey
Activity 2: Sign Memorandum of Understanding with partner organizations (The General Union of Palestinian Peasants and MA’AN)
Activity 3: Form local project committees in fourteen (14) locations combining adjacent communities and orient all stakeholders including farmer associations and communitybased organisations.
Activity 4: Participating farmers sell fresh vegetables as per calendar schedule and agreement
Activity 5: Conduct 36 verification/monitoring workshops with partners and communities
Activity 6: Implement monitoring system and facilitate the verification/ monitoring
workshops

Activities for expected Result 2:
Activity 1: Identify and locate the distribution points.
Activity 2: Distribute fresh vegetables to household beneficiaries and social/health
institutions

Activities for expected Result 3:
Activity 1: Identify and sign agreements with the two women CBOs.
Activity 2: Produce the packing materials (bags).
Activity 3: Distribute the bags to the packing stations.

Other project activities:
Activity 1: Ensure adequate visibility of all project activities
Activity 2: Conduct an end of project external evaluation.
