Principal objective: To increase the awareness and the response capacities of the local communities in Nepal to potential and frequent natural disasters and to reduce the effects of these disasters on the most vulnerable populations
Specific objective: The most vulnerable communities, local elected government bodies and civil society groups in the three districts of Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha in Nepal have developed their capacities to be forewarned, to effectively mobilize response to the potential impact of hazards, and to undertake physical measures that will protect lives and property, thereby minimizing the adverse impacts of natural hazards.
The SAMADHAN Project will address urgent needs of peoples and communities at risk and to promote their basic right to life with dignity. The project will fill important gaps in the broad range of programs being implemented by different stakeholders who share the common objective of helping reduce the very high level of disaster risks in Nepal that continue to threaten the people, the economy and the environment.
The SAMADHAN Project will develop community capacities for disaster risk reduction primarily through awareness raising, increasing their level of preparedness through contingency planning, complementing preparedness plans with small-scale mitigation measures, and coordination and networking.
