Nepal: Emergency Assistance to Koshi Flood victims in Sunsari District - NPL073

Overall Objective: To save lives, reduce sufferings and protect livelihoods of flood-affected women and children in Sunsari district of Nepal.

Specific Objective: To respond to the specific needs of 5,847 displaced flood-affected families from Sunsari District in Nepal with special focus on pregnant womenand lactating mothers and their accompagning small children.

Project Outputs and/or Results:

  1. Basic NFI needs including Sweaters/jacket, fuel and jute carpet are met
  2. Protection, care and dietary needs of displaced lactating mothers, pregnant women and their accompanying children are met

Key Activities:

  1. Provide additional 28,751 sweaters or Jacket to remaining family members
  2. provide 1,847 Jute carpets to target displaced families
  3. Provide fuel sources to 5,847 displaced families (Briquette/fire wood or kerosene)
  4. Establishment of a separate Women Care Centre for lactating mothers who have babies less than 45 days old and pregnant women who have pregnancy of above 7 months near the existing camp as far as possible.
  5. Providing special protection and psychosocial care to pregnant women and lactating mothers along with children who are less than 2 years
  6. Provide nutri-mix to all women above 7 months of pregnancy and all lactating mothers with their accompanying children

Other Marketing Requirements: CARE Country Office will send in due course, upon request and at least when submitting.

Target Group: Through the proposed action, CARE Nepal will reach 28,751 flood affected populations from 5,847 displaced families ( as per latest figures provided by International Organization for Migration (IOM):

  • Pregnant women
  • Lactating women
  • Newly born babies
  • Children under 2 years old
