Principal Objective: Support to income/food insecure small farmers who have lost access to the export market while mitigating the food security risk of targeted poor households and social/health institutions.
Specific Objective: Ensure that vulnerable small farmers targeted in the operation are able to sustain their livelihoods while targeted poor households and needy institutions receive a significant part of their fresh food requirement on a regular basis.
Total number of direct beneficiaries: Approximately 65,616 individuals will directly benefit from the project. These are: 1,500 vulnerable small farmers and their families (12,000 individuals), 6,500 households in need (52,000 individuals), and nine social/health care institutions (1,616 individuals).
Indicator(s) and source(s) of verification: - Approx. 1,500 small farmers sell on average up to 50% of their export production during the growing and harvesting season (8 months).
- Approx. 1,500 farmers can recuperate more than 100% of the production cost of the produce sold as part of the project intervention.
- Approx. 6,500 households and 9 health care centres secure their fresh food requirements for up to 25 weeks.
Result 1, relevant indicator(s) and source(s) of verification: Approx. 1,500 farmers have received income from selling part of their vegetables produced for the export market and have covered their production costs.
Indicators: Purchase of up to 3,435 tons of vegetables from 1,500 farmers at a price above the production costs: - Approx. 1,173 tons of tomatoes
- Approx. 838 tons of potatoes
- Approx. 503 tons of cucumber
- Approx. 418 tons of squash
- Approx. 503 tons of eggplant
Result 2, relevant indicator(s) and source(s) of verification: During the growing and harvesting season from October to May, approx. 6,500 households and approx. 1,616 people living in nine social/health institutions are provided with their average weekly vegetable consumption.
Indicators:
- Over a period of 25 weeks, approx. 6,500 households are provided with 3,331 tons of fresh food.
- Over a period of 25 weeks, approx. 1,616 people resident in 9 social/health care centres are provided with 104 tons of fresh food
