West Bank: Community-based Health and Hygiene Assistance in Palestine (COHHAP) - WBG061
Location: The project will be implemented in the West Bank – Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarem, Hebron, Nablus and East Bethlehem, as well as in the Gaza districts of– North Gaza, Middle Area, and South district
Number of beneficiaries:
Health: 626,886 - beneficiary visits
In the West Bank, approximately 291,952 health clinic visits are expected during the project period. According to data and information from the health facilities, in general 70% of patients are first time visits, whilst the remaining are recurring and follow-up visits. Thus an estimated 204,366 individuals are expected to benefit from this intervention.
In Gaza, an estimated number of 603,600 patient visits are expected in the health
facilities during the project period. Similar to above, an estimated 70% are first time patients, whilst the rest are mainly follow-up visits.
Therefore, potentially a total number of 422,520 individuals are expected to benefit from this intervention during the project period.
In addition, approximately 20 participating medical staff will be trained on health related topics.
The grand total number of beneficiaries under the health intervention is estimated to be 626,906 (204,366 + 422,520 + 20).
Water: 24,680 individuals (3,189 HH)
In the West Bank: 372 HH (2,620 individuals) in Jenin District.
77 HH (500 individuals) in Tulkarem District.
240 HH (1,560 individuals) in Nablus District.
In the Gaza Strip: 625 HH (5,000 individuals) in the South Area District
500 HH (4,000 individuals) in the Middle Area District
1,375 HH (11,000 individuals) in the Northern Area District
In addition, approximately 40 municipality village council staff will be trained on water management skills and health/hygiene promotion.
The grand total number of beneficiaries under the water intervention is estimated to be 24,720 individuals.
Under both interventions a total of 16,000 individuals will benefit from education in health, hygiene and best practices in water management.
Principle objective:
To address the humanitarian needs of the vulnerable segments of the Palestinian population in the occupied Palestinian territories, affected by the deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Special objective:
Community members in the West Bank and Gaza have improved access to quality health care and water enabling them and professionals (medical/municipality staff) to manage health and hygiene risks.
Results 1
At least 62 health facilities operational to meet quality primary health care needs of individuals in the West Bank and Gaza
Result 2
Selected communities in the West Bank and Gaza have better and improved access to water.
Result 3
Selected communities in West Bank and Gaza have access to health, hygiene and water management information that allows them to protect and promote their own health and well-being Activities.
Start-up Phase
- Project start-up phase (initiating tendering, finalising MoUs, staffing, coordination
meetings with the partners in the different districts, visiting the communities, ...etc) - Develop questionnaire for the service satisfaction

- Develop, finalize, and implement work plans for mobile teams/out-reach health

- Supply pharmaceuticals and medical disposables/supplies, medical equipment to
health care facilities in West Bank & Gaza - Conduct interviews with beneficiaries to measure the service satisfaction
