West Bank: Emergency assistance for households and farmers in West Bank and Gaza affected by the protracted crisis and severe weather conditions - WBG060

Location: Occupied Palestinian Territories: In the West Bank, communities in Jenin, Nablus, and Tubas Governorates, and in the Gaza Strip, communities in the North and Middle areas.

  • Jenin District: Ya’bad, Tora Al Qarbia, Zabda, Al Kuhljan, Om Dar and Khirbit Mas’ood
  • Tubas District: Al Malih, Bardalla, Kardalya and Ein El Beida
  • Nablus District: Beit Furik, Beit Dajan, Awarta and Odela
  • In the Gaza Strip communities include: Beit Hanoun, Izbat Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Shiekh Radwan and Beit Lahia (Mashrou') in the North, Al Musaddar, Az Zawayda, Maghazi Refugee Camp, Nuseirat Refugee Camp and East Magahazy (Bedouin community) in the Middle Area and in the South Area.

Beneficaries: The total number of households who will benefit from this Action is around 3,260 HH (22,210 individuals) and estimated as follows:

  • In the West Bank 1,935 HH (11,610 individuals)
  • In the Gaza Strip 1,325 HH (10,600 individuals)

Special objective
Improved asset-base of vulnerable communities by increased food production and sustained income.

Result 1: Households in vulnerable communities increased their purchasing power to secure most of their basic needs.
Result 2: Targeted hardship families have improved their diet and enhanced their nutritious meal intake.
Result 3: Targeted livestock breeders sustained their livestock.

Activities for expected Result 1

  • Action start-up phase (verifying data, staffing, coordination meetings with the
    communities in the different districts, formation of project committees, etc)
  • Conduct a baseline survey
  • Select and sign agreement with project beneficiaries, including women groups.
  • Conduct training courses for the project beneficiaries
  • Distribute project inputs to the project beneficiaries

The inputs include:
750 beehives for 250 households.
250 sets of beekeeping tools for households
Materials to rehabilitate 325 green houses.
80 small green houses (70 M2)
37.5 tons of seed of wheat, barely, common vetch and alfa alfa
3,000 rabbits, 240 tons of rabbits’ feed and 1200 cages for the rabbits

  • Identify vulnerable/hardship households.
  • Collect and distribute cheese

Activity for expected Result 3

  • Identify veterinary services.
  • Prepare the list of animal medicines.
  • Procure and provide animal health care.
  • Procure and distribute animal shed materials for the livestock breeders.
